Hello! This is my new blog which I have created to document my experiences while completing my ServiceShip to Panama City, Panama. I will spend 8 weeks in Panama, volunteering with Civitas International. I will teach "Project Citizen" to middle and high school students throughout the country. Project Citizen is a program that emphazises the important of citizenship: voting, volunteering, and remaining active in civil matters of society.
I will also work on my Undergraduate Honors Thesis while in Panama, which will explore the needs of the nonprofit community in Latin America.
I am so thankful to the Center for Leadership and Civic Education for making this experience possible for me through the Serviceship program. Thank you to Civitas Panama and the Florida Law Related Education Association for allowing me to work with their wonderful programs.
Thanks to the incredible folks at the CLCE, all of whom I consider role models and mentors. Special thanks to Rody Thompson for always being so supportive of my dreams and goals and for putting so much faith in me. Dr. Ralph Brower for supporting my research, for letting me make mistakes, bite off more than I could chew, and learn from all of those bumps along the road (and for reading my countless thesis drafts). Bill Moeller for creating a place for students to explore their true calling and to grow through service and leadership. You are all my heroes, and I hope to make you proud!
